The All-New 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Although the 2012 Volkswagen Passat hasn't arrived in dealerships yet, it is still generating a lot of buzz for its back to basics approach. Designed in Germany specifically for the American market, the 2012 Passat is larger and has more interior room than previous years. The base model comes equipped with standard features like Bluetooth technology, dual-zone climate control and Carefree Maintenance, while the higher-end trim lines offer features such as the exclusive Fender audio system, heated front seats and remote start.
Tested on the Autobahn, safety plays an important part in the appeal of the 2012 Passat. Simply put, safety came first. Volkswagen includes their standard Intelligent Crash Response system, which unlocks doors, shuts off the fuel pump and turns on the hazard lights in the event of a collision. Passengers in the all-new Passat are also protected by a host of other safety systems, including driver and passenger front and side airbag systems and Side Curtain Protection airbags that help to better protect front seat passengers. Seatbelt pretensioners automatically help pull in safety belts when a collision is detected. The Electronic Stability Control, in conjunction with antilock brakes, helps monitor slip of the wheels and how far the car has rotated, and can help correct a spin condition by braking individual wheels. Volkswagen has also incorporated the LATCH system in the rear outboard seats to help properly tether a child seat for maximum safety.
The 2012 Passat will be assembled in Volkswagen's enormous new Chattanooga, Tennessee, factory. It will be priced specifically for the American market, with MSRP for the nicely equipped Passat S starting around $20,000.
