When to Buy New Tires
The first way to measure tire tread is there are knobs of rubber inside the tread, when the outer portion of the tire is worn down to those knobs it needs to be replaced. The problem is, sometimes those knobs can be hard to find, or once the tread is so far worn it can be difficult to determine how much of the knob is left. Another easy means of checking is to insert a penny in the tread, if the outer tire doesn't reach the top of Lincoln's head it needs to be changed. Again, that isn't the best way to make the determination, but provides a general idea of whether replacement might be needed. An authorized technician has the knowledge and experience to tell when performance is going to be affected by worn tires and when safety suggests it's time for a tire replacement.
